Two False Bay years

We have closed a chapter that began when we returned from Switzerland for the third time. We adopted an SPCA companion for Henry. Camps Bay memories and Porterville photos.

When we moved Chocolat and Aragon from Porterville to False Bay they enjoyed exploring a new garden. Meeting the neighbours was a bit more tricky for Chocolat defending his patch.

It is almost a year since we said goodbye to Chocolat - who was a feral cat, born on the empty plot across the road, and brought home by Henry. "Here you go, little fella. I'll be moving on and there'll be space for another cat here - you!"

We found a third companion for Aragon, as she had outlived both Henry and Chocolat. Last November we adopted Thomas. Again from the SPCA.

Cats 'sleep all day' but Aragon was less interested in going outside. Didn't walk to the gate to look out at what was happening on our street. She ate, carefully, and not much. Last week we had that cautious and dreadful conversation with a locum vet from New York (!) We could ... leave Aragon at the vet to rehydrate, put her on antibiotics. Then risk an anaesthetic to find out why her mouth bothered her. Or we could do the right thing for her. Let a nineteen year old cat cross the rainbow bridge in peace. Gentle, kind, patient and respectful - later the vet showed us an ulcer on her tongue, caused by kidney disease.
