Blogaversary 13

I haven't written a blogging tools post since 2020. Whittled down to tools that give me information I can understand and use today. Still happy with my free blogspot. I check Exit Links clicked each day using StatCounter. Deleting dead links to sad abandoned domains which are now occupied by nasty junk. Sometimes I can find a fresh live link. I also like to follow up Downloads of my pictures. And to see which sites my readers Came From.

I use Feedly to get fresh posts from about 50 blogs I read.

As the month rolls over I run Glary to keep my laptop running smoothly without glitches. Google's Search Console for Coverage (those broken links I mentioned), and Performance to see the queries that bring readers to my blog. Always on that list is my post about Koos Malgas.

Monthly look at StatCounter for a less noise clear signal of Came From and Exit Links. Also their - System - Platform for desktop versus mobile readers (I am only ever on my laptop and need to deliberately remember tiny cellphone screens). Finally Engagement - Session Length - reality check 90% of my 'readers' are here for less than 5 seconds. Thank you to the 10% who stay to read! The happiest readers are the handful who use tablets.

German language remains in my repertoire thanks to blogs I read. I loved this post written in 2010 about butterflies in the nature reserve where the Wall was. (Click translate to English which works well for that language pair)

I read from Austria Tante Malis Gartenblog crafts and food

And from Germany Guenstig Gaertnern a biologist

For photos I am still using the very old Canon software, an old Picasa for collages. Fresh new FastStone to compress images, and for a transparent and functional watermark (only used on the first photo of Grielum this time). I have a human friendly name on each image, and use Alt Text for each one.

My readers are either longterm (from bookmarks), or via various groups and my blog page on Facebook, or looking for pictures. With some welcome newbies from iNaturalist

  1. You put more effort into managing your blog than I do, Diana. I rely on Blogger's own analytics. Happy 13th blogaversary! You're more than 3 years ahead of me. As my blog name indicates, I was late to the party.

  3. Congratulations on the blogging anniversary!
The one post of mine that gets a lot of traffic was about some stickers I had trouble removing. Just something I wrote when I was feeling annoyed, and it seems to get more traffic than all my other posts combined.

  5. I'm just glad you are still blogging Diane and can catch up with how your garden grows in our opposite hemispheres - your technical management is admirable (I haven't used Picasa for ages) but more than that thanks for the enjoyment you bring to your readers wherever you can track them from ;)

  6. Congratulations on your 13th blogaversary Diana! I still read your every post. Even when I don't have time to comment or blog. But you probably know that, since you have all those informative tools.
